United Against Racism fully supports the call by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) and many progressive artists and Irish citizens for Ireland to withdraw from the Eurovision song contest due to be held in the Apartheid state of Israel.
We take this stand in solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people and in response to numerous calls from Palestinian civil society for BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) which we also fully support.
For United Against Racism this is a matter of basic anti-racist principle.
Israel is a racist state based on the systematic, daily, dispossession, oppression and discrimination of the Palestinian people.
The denial of the right of return to Palestinian exiles and refugees, while allowing anyone of Jewish background from anywhere in the world to enter, is blatantly racist.
Israel, as a society, is awash with deeply racist attitudes to the Palestinian people. Moreover, extreme right wing , racist and fascist forces around the world are increasingly rallying around Israel.
In these circumstances Ireland’s participation in Eurovision is disgraceful collusion with racism and oppression and makes a mockery of the government’s proclaimed commitment to fairness and equality.
We say:
BOYCOTT EUROVISION,
SUPPORT BDS,
FREE PALESTINE
End

Petition: Sarah McTernan – Please Don’t Go to Eurovision 2019 in Apartheid Israel

Ireland must play no part in the art-washing of Israeli oppression, and we are asking the Irish entrant Sarah McTernan not to perform at Eurovision 2019 in Apartheid Israel.
Palestinian artists, journalists and civil society groups haveasked international artists of conscience to boycott the 2019 Eurovision due to be staged in Israel, due to Israel’s “regime of military occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid” which is “shamelessly using Eurovision as part of its official ‘Brand Israel’ strategy”.
In solidarity with this call from the oppressed Palestinian people we ask you to sign this petition.
